[O]f Since You've Been Gone

Kelly Clarkson @ Orpheum Theatre [Apr. 22, 2005 - 7:30pm]

Last Friday, April 22, 2005, Jason, Lilla and I ventured to Orpheum Theatre to witness Kelly Clarkson rock the house with her Breakaway Tour. With our 15th row [!] [thnx. Mike!] tickets, we were able to get the best out of the show. After the [pretty good] Graham Colton Band finished their set, around 8:30ish, the lights went out, and Kelly walked on stage. After [a lot] of screaming, the first note of Since You've Been Gone began to play, and everyone went crazy. She belted the hell out of the song and hearing [and seeing] that song being performed live is quite a sight. Kelly has a voice so powerful that the speakers in the theater were almost unable to handle it. She is that good. Once she sang the last verse of SYBG, the lights went out, and right then and there, I could have died a happy man.

But I survived as she followed up that spectacular opening with Walk Away, Gone, Low, and Just Missed the Train. Of course she was excellent with all these, but I didn't really know the last too so I was just hopping along. She then moved to her 'acoustic' set, where she sang What's Up Lonely, Thankful, and The Trouble with Love. My fav. of these was the last one. I enjoyed Love, Actually but really loved this song, and she sang it just right. Then she decided to sing a new song that she had recently written. It's called Don't and it was a really good song. You know when you hear a song for the first time and you immediately like it? This song was that good.

After the acoustic set came the Covers set. She did covers of Take a Little Piece of my Heart, which was risky after Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone did it at the Grammys, but she rocked out to it just fine. Then she covered I'm The Only One and The Thrill Is Gone, which I didn't know at all. Once she was done, two violinists came out to help her with her rendition of Annie Lennox [and the Eurythmics] Sweet Dreams, which was awesome. He rocked it out a bit more than the original version, which was ok.

Then the violinists stayed on stage for one of the BEST moments of the night. Kelly Clarkson sang [an almost acapella] version of the slow Beautiful Disaster. This was possibly one of my favorite moments of the night because she sang it with just the violins accompanying here, an her voice was so clear and haunting to a point. During some moments there was complete silence from the audience just because people were in awe of her. Truly a beautiful song, and a great rendition. With this song she began a truly unstoppable block of amazing performances. She followed up with Addicted [possibly the most aurally amazing moment of the night, vocally and musically], Because of You [she cried!], Where is Your Heart?, and Behind These Hazel Eyes.

She finished the show with Miss Independent [she forgot the words], A Moment like This [rock version, and weakest part of the show], and then Breakaway, which was sung mostly by the audience as she sang in a few parts. Then she said her goodbyes, introduced her band, and Walked Away.

Overall it was an amazing concert. Kelly Clarkson knows how to work the crowd without being cold. She is unique, loves to rock out, and has an insanely powerful voice. She is also super cute, making fun of herself, her accent [Southern gal!], the fuzz in front of her, her stage, and the fact that she forgot words to her own song. I'd def. pay good money to see her again...if anything to hear Since You've Been Gone live one more time! ;-)

[O] crazy symbols

this appears as crazy symbols on my last post. so here's a second try:

  • Like all those acapella groups that exist in every campus? Well, here's a group that plays some REAL MUSIC.
  • The trials of a woman running the Boston Marathon. [she's my hero!]
  • So the new XBOX[360] will be introduced on MTV by Elijah Wood and The Killers. I'm not gonna lie...I'm extremely excited. The magic happens May 12th.
  • Return of the Sith will [hopefully] be amazing. 3 New TV Spots [here], [here] and [here].

[O]f a tan

Today was Puerto Rico in Boston Day, as Beantown experienced an event unseen for at least 6 months:
86 Degree Weather!
Por suerte, I had no classes, only a meeting with a professor, so I went to relax [and get a fabulous tan!] @ the BU Beach.

In a more random splurge of mind vomit, NES is the shit. Tetris is the shit. Duck Hunt is the shit. Super Mario Bros. is the shit. I hadn't done old school like that in a few years. We should invest in buying a comunal NES for the masses this summer. U in SLG?

[O]f My Marriage

So yes. The [Rumur]'s are true. Isabel a la Mode said yes, and we are now a full-on blog-married. The days of Cananada ditching, bottle breaking are over; and the true Red Bull and Vodka days will continue until our [fabulous] deaths. I have to say that even though she isn't 20 yet she is over her commitment phobia, I thought I'd mature and make it through. Commitments like this I can handle, especially with some Pink Red Bull.

And what a commitment it will be! All the BU Male Life news and gossip will be handled with care, as the world of us poor socialites, gossip, and news will be too. And I'd like to reiterate, don't bug us with the wedding invitations. You should know if you are in. Check your socialite card...check it again. Don't have one? awwww. Take a guess. The wedding will be the spot to be. BU will not be the same after this. Bring on the OC, 24, FREEP [disaster!], and the new GSU, the FitRec [no spot like those ellipticals overlooking the pool].

So if you all would join us, feel free to leave a message and congratulate us. We will love you like that.

Isa, this is just for you:

[the ring]

And a special treat, just for my WIFE.

[MK and her horse]

[Someone sleeps!]

[O]f an iMix...Part deux

I just recently acquired some hot new songs that I feel is my duty to share with the world. Now don't just read, go out download/buy these tunes as they are the future #1 singles. Believe me.

And now...música:

  • Shakira feat. Alejandro Sanz ~ "La tortura"
    • The hottest, most ingenious rockera latina returns with her first single off her Spanish album Fijacion Oral (Part 1) with a collaboration with the always genius Alejandro Sanz singing along. The track oozes a celebratory flavor under lyrics that scream for love and pain. As always she plays with sounds and lyrics to poetic results. "Yo puedo pedirle lo eterno a un simple mortal" [-o- omg I just found out that there's an official (!) Reggaeton remix to this song. I fucking swear it's taking over!]
  • Eric Prydz ~ "Call on me"
    • A catchy club track in the same vein ass the fat man lip-synching, this tune has no significance on its own. To truly appreciate and love this, crank out the video. And if you've had a few Red Bulls and Vodka, then everything will REALLY make sense.
  • Coldplay ~ "Speed of Sound"
    • Their first single off of X&Y, Coldplay always loves having Chris Martin 's quiet moany voice over epic musical arrangements, and this track is no different. It has a haunting, soothing sound at the same time that it bashes you with its harmonic, concert-like sound. Bring on the away messages.
  • Black Eyed Peas ~ "Don't Phunk with my Heart"
    • Still don't know how I feel about this one, but BEP is back with wannabe-club tunes and this one isn't as immediately accessible as "Let's Get Retarded" or "Hey Mama" are, but it's catchy enough in an old school dance club sort of way. Fergie's presence in this track is much more obvious than it was before, but she is still doing the hooks. A fun song that is sure to grow and become big.
  • Garbage ~ "Why Do You Love Me"
    • The sizzling hot Shirley Manson pleads to a lover in this excellent, rocking song. Her sweet voice becomes commanding and desperate as she declares her status and then goes to question what is 'driving her crazy'. I fucking love this song, and I'm not that huge of a Garbage fan. Just get it. It's so awesome! ;-) [that was for you isa]
  • Mariah Carey ~ "We Belong Together"
    • Mariah's new album is her best since Butterfly, and this song harkens [-o- nice word] back to those days. The song is really sweet and a nice mid-tempo harmony. The lyrics remind me of Breakdown, though not as let's kill ourselves. It is more about a plea to someone who has not realize how perfect being together really is.
  • Beck ~ "Guero"
    • Beck has such a cool and unique style. This Molotov-style song is a nice road song. He has a little rap, a little Spanish, and a little drawl. Everything you need for a good song I say.
  • Rob Thomas ~ "Lonely no More"
    • Where's Matchbox Twenty? eh, who cares when the songs sound this good. This guy proves that the Santana stints were no flukes, and quite the inspirations too, as he melds Spanish sounds into his first single. The song's pretty nice I think.
So go get these songs, or at least try them out. You'll thank me in a few months. :-)

[O]f a Preggo Spederline

I know i know. i'm late as all hell. but it's still just as relevant.

The girl who cooed and grinded her way to our hearts as a Naughty Catholic School girl, vampy stripper and snake charmer is having a baby...

...with this:

Together they make quite the lovable, exemplary White Trash couple, and will produce a trash can for a baby.

[O]f a Marathon of info

This past weekend, Boston University was host to the 3rd annual Dance Marathon, a 12-hour dance-a-thon to raise money for pediatric AIDS, where we were able to raise $80,000, $30,000 more than last year. Good causes are THE SHIT.

BU was also host to Footloose! A BU On Broadway production, Footloose! is a musical about a town where dancing has been outlawed. Yes, outlawed. But after a lot of great singing and dancing, thing turn out well, and the town gets grooving. It's was a simple, fun show with a great cast, excellent music, and awesome dancing.

In other news:
  • 24, was once again, absolutely stunning. While the much hyped twist could be seen a million miles away, i still got chills when Air Force One was shot own and the President killed. And where's Beihrooz?
  • I recently rediscovered Lost, a show that just gets more insane as each episode is aired. The passt two episodes have been quite the trip and a test in puzzles and insanity. Can't wait to see where all this crazy shit ends up with.
  • holy shit fuck! BRITNEY SPEARS WILL HAVE A REALITY TV SHOW ABOUT HER LIFE ON UPN! now THIS is what BU got cable for!
  • This weekend I'm going to Montreal wit some awesome people! Break out the pink red bull, the french translation books, and throw out your livers!
  • This is hilariously cute.
  • Now this is using Photoshop for its true purposes.
So, yea. I think I want new jeans.

And an Ipod Shuffle.

Can't really explain why.....
